CHILDREN'S CLASSES

This class was designed specifically for young children. It allows children to explore dance, music and human movement in a fun and educational way. It is an excellent preparation for formal ballet study, which is best commenced when the child is 8-10 years of age.

This class combines floor, barre and centre work in order to limber and strengthen the body so that it will respond in an optimal manner when formal ballet training is commenced. Emphasis is on developing flexibility, strength and a love of dance. The study of National Character Dance begins in this level.

The levels of the Russian ballet syllabus suit both recreational & vocational students and carry the beginner dancer through to an advanced or professional level. As the levels increase in difficulty, the number of lessons per week also increases. National Character Dance is studied alongside Classical Ballet.

Dance

National Character Dance is an extension of the basic folk dances of countries, refined and enhanced for stage. It is traditionally studied alongside Classical Ballet, because its skills are often required in performance of the major classical ballets. Study begins in Ballet Prep and continues through higher levels.

Jazz will be included in the curriculum for Levels 1 and higher in 2010.
